The School of Management of Jilin University grew out of the School of Management of Jilin University of Technology, whose history can be traced back to 1955 when the major of engineering economics in Jilin University of Technology was established. The school was officially founded in 1985, as one of the earliest management schools approved by the Ministry of Education. Many senior management scholars, such as Yang Jianyuan, Chen Huanyou, Shen Jingming, Zhou Sanduo, Wu Hong, Chen Songnian, Zhao Enwu, Jiang Baofang, Zheng Daben, to name a few, were teaching or doing research in our school.

The school boasts doctoral degree authorization stations in three first-level disciplines, i.e., management science and engineering, business administration, and library information and archives management and post-doctoral research stations in these three disciplines. In particular, technology economics and management is ranked as a national key discipline, business administration as a Class A Jilin provincial leading discipline, and management science and engineering, and library information and archives management as Class A Jilin provincial advanced disciplines with characteristics.

The school is entitled to granting master’s degrees in nine disciplines: management science and engineering, engineering project management, logistics management, technology economics and management, company management, accounting, library science, information science and archives. It is also authorized to grant professional masters in master of business administration (MBA) and master of library and information science.

We have three major undergraduate programs: management science and engineering (information management and information systems, engineering management, logistics management, big data management and application), business management (accounting, business management, marketing, human resources management), and archival science.

Diverse in age, academic background and qualifications, our faculty is experienced in teaching and productive in academic research. We also invite leading experts, scholars, entrepreneurs and politicians from home and abroad to give lectures. There are 133 full-time teachers in our school, among which 63 are professors (including 44 doctoral supervisors), 47 are associate professors (including 3 doctoral supervisors), and 23 are lecturers. Our award-winning teachers include one granted the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars, one  listed into the Ministry of Education’s New Century Talents Project, five listed into the Ministry of Education’s New Century Outstanding Talents Support Program, and seven granted the State Council’s Special Allowance.

 

Adhering to the “human-centered, harmony-oriented, truth-seeking and innovation-driven” philosophy, we have gradually gained advantages and characteristics in teaching and scientific research, and trained talents for the national economic development, including provincial and ministerial leaders, well-known entrepreneurs, experts and scholars and academic leaders.

The school has achieved fruitful results in scientific research. Since the beginning of the 13th Five-Year Plan, it has been granted 8 national social science funds (including 1 major and 1 key funds), 18 national natural science funds (including 1 key international cooperative research project), 8 social science projects of the Ministry of Education, 91 ministerial, provincial and municipal projects, 184 horizontal projects of various types, with a total funding of over 70 million yuan. Works the school has published include more than 800 academic papers among which 64 are SSCI papers, and 47 textbooks and monographs, with more than 20 provincial and ministerial academic awards won. More than 30 consultation reports have been written, of which 12 have been approved and adopted by the provincial government, contributing valuable suggestions and ideas to the social and economic development of Jilin Province.

Following the guideline of promoting research and social practice driven by innovation and entrepreneurship in an open-minded and down-to-earth manner, the school-backed Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship of Jilin University was established and has done an outstanding job in scientific research, international academic exchanges and innovative and entrepreneurial practices. The Institute was awarded one of the first batch of university think tanks of a new type with Jilin characteristics by the Jilin Provincial Education Department, and its management team backed by our school was awarded a university innovative team in Jilin Province. In the future, we will build the team with more international influence, strengthen academic exchanges, improve the discipline platform, make full efforts to build a domestic leading innovation and entrepreneurship research institution with certain international influence, contribute to innovation and entrepreneurship in Jilin university and Jilin province, provide intellectual support for the national economic and social development, and tap full potentials of its role as a university think tank of a new type.

The school highly values academic exchanges with high-level universities at home and abroad. In recent years, we have established academic ties and cooperation with schools of management of Xi’an Jiaotong University, Tianjin University, Harbin Institute of Technology School of Management, Dalian University of Technology, Taiwan Central University, to name a few.  Academic exchanges have also been established with foreign institutions, such as the Entrepreneurship Research Center of Besson College in the United States, the School of Management of University of Southern California in the United States, the School of Management of University of Montreal in Canada, the School of Management of University of Manchester in the United Kingdom, the School of Management of Keimyung University in Korea, Vienna University of Economics in Austria, University of Warwick in the United Kingdom, etc. Since 2005, the school has hosted “Jilin University International Conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship” for seven consecutive years, inviting experts and scholars from the United States, Canada, Japan, Israel, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and other countries, which have also enhanced international exchanges of the school. Seventy-four teachers of our school have been to renowned foreign management schools for visiting study, cooperative research and degree study. We also receive scholars, experts and professors from both home and abroad to give lectures or carry out cooperative research at our school every year.

Facing the challenges of economic globalization and knowledge-based economy in the 21st century, the School of Management is forging ahead to become a nationally top-tier and internationally renowned school of management.
